ATHLETICS 100 student athletes to represent Nigeria at the World University Games

Ahead of the 2023 World University Games, 100 Nigerian athletes will represent the country in China.

The 2023 World University Games will take place from July 27 to August 8 in Chengdu, China.

The Acting Secretary General of the Nigeria University Games (NUGA) confirmed that the 100 are among the best student-athletes.

Ezeani announced that the games are an opportunity to expose athletes to the global world.

“This is indeed a great opportunity for Nigerian students to showcase their talents on a global stage and bring glory to the nation," she said

Nigeria to compete in 7 Games

Ezeani disclosed further that the country will participate in seven games.

The games are track and field, swimming, badminton, judo, taekwondo, table tennis, and tennis.

“Nigeria will not only participate but will also excel at the 2023 World University Games, bringing pride and joy to the nation, therefore appealing to the government, sports authorities, corporate bodies, and well-meaning individuals to support our teams, as they represent Nigeria with honor, dignity, and sportsmanship," she said.

Student-athletes from all over the world come together every two years for the World University Games, a multisport competition where they compete for medals in a variety of sports.

Almost 10,000 participants from more than 170 nations are anticipated for the event's 2023 edition, which has been announced for Chengdu, China.
