Before the final round of the 28 games, Oghenekaro and Enoch Tochukwu Nwali, the current African champion, were level on 19 victories.

Eta Paul Oghenekaro, a Delta State-born wordsmith and current West African Scrabble Champion, has won the Asaph Zadok National Championship, which concluded on Wednesday in Abuja.

Before defeating a highly strong field that includes four former national champions of the prized NSF Green Jacket and thirty other players in the Masters' division, the 2005 champion also placed second in seven earlier editions.

Before the final round of the 28 games, Oghenekaro and Enoch Tochukwu Nwali, the current African champion, were level on 19 victories.

Nwali would have won the Green Jacket regardless of the outcome since he had a huge cumulative point total, but Oghenekaro had to work hard to outsmart the University of Lagos 300 level Health Education student by 401-390 in order to accumulate 20 victories and a plus 1048 total point total.

Nwali finished with 19 wins and 1781 cumulative points.

Nwali is Oghenekaro's understudy in a significant tournament for the second time in 10 months.

Oghenekaro improved his NSF rating by 71 points as a result of his victory at the Asaph Zadok National Championship, moving him up to second place in the overall standings with 1,728 points.
