Administration Police of Kenya finished 12th last season and they have made a strong comeback which has seen them win all their three matches in the second leg of the KVF men's league.
Administration Police of Kenya (APK) men’s volleyball coach Francis Nguma says their Sunday win over Kenya Forest Service (KFS) is motivation enough ahead of realising their top-four finish at the end of the season.
APK thrashed KFS 3-2 in sets of 18-25, 25-20, 25-18, 17-25, and 19-17 as the second leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation men’s league came to an end at the Nyayo National Stadium.
In their opening match on Friday 10 February, APK trounced pre-match favourites Trailblazers 3-1 and maintained the hot streak in their second match against Rift Valley Prisons on Sunday 11 February. APK put up a brilliant show to win 3-2 in sets of 31-29, 21-25, 26-28, 25-18, and 15-12.
“This is a morale booster for me and I am getting closer to realising my dream of finishing among the top-four in this season. If we had lost our last match, that would be a huge disadvantage but I’m glad we have won all of our three games,” he said.
He revealed that giving the players enough time to rest was what helped them to bounce back stronger. In the previous season, APK finished 12th.
“We used to train twice a day and I observed that players were so exhausted… enough rest is very important for the players to perform well. I had to change our training routine and I think that’s what has worked in our favour,” he said.
He noted that despite the win, there’s still more to do ahead of their next fixtures. “I have had a challenge with our middle hitter. That’s where we are going to work on going forward,” he observed.
He went ahead and congratulated the team for their victory after they bagged nine points in the three-day event. “A win is a win and I just want to applaud them for the effort. We should maintain the spirit,” he concluded.
