As a result of the new dates in November, the registration portal will also remain open till October 28 which has been marked as the new deadline date.

Speaking on these fresh developments after a meeting with the Local Organising Committee (LOC),  South-West coordinator of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation Emmanuel Egbele stated that the extension was necessitated by their resolve to provide an exciting tournament experience to all participants who registered for the tournament.

It was also believed that holding the South-West Opens Scrabble Tournament after the African Scrabble Championship in Kigali will afford newbies a rare opportunity to draw direct experience from players who are expected to participate in the biennial tournament in Kigali, Rwanda later this month.

"After our meeting, we decided to move the South-West Opens Scrabble Tournament to November 2 and 3 from the October 18 and 19 to give more room at creating a wholesome Scrabble experience for players. You know, we thought it wise to also use the new dates to encourage those who are yet to complete their registration to also do so ahead of the new deadline of the 28th of this month.

This is going to be the biggest edition so, we are leaving nothing behind in making AKURE 2024 the best for all to witness."

Furthermore, the prestigious Imperial Boni Hotel and Resorts located at Ijapo Estate has been named the arena for the third installment of the South-West Scrabble fiesta.

Players will participate in three categories namely; Master, Intermediate, and Open while registration fees have been pegged at 25,000, 20,000, and 15,000 naira respectively with 500 US dollars pronounced as the top prize money.
