The competitive tournament which hosted 200 golfers drew to a close when Kelani emerged winner ahead of Fawze Talal
Amusa Kelani's impressive run at the 2023 Ikeja Golf Club championship has earned him a place in the club’s history as he emerged champion of the prestigious tournament.
The highly competitive week-long tournament reached the pinnacle on Sunday when 54 golfers took to the course to stake their claim for the championship. The champion hit a cumulative 148 gross across two days to emerge winner ahead of his competitors.
The competitive tournament which hosted 200 golfers drew to a close when Kelani was rightly crowned the champion and adorned with the club’s customary green jacket made for the winner of the annual championship.
Kelani emerged winner ahead of Fawze Talal, who scored 154 gross across two days to finish as the runner-up and Alhaji Rasaki Muritala, who scored 158 gross across two days, to finish as second runner-up. Arun Sharma scored 158 gross to finish as third runner-up and Uwem Udoh scored 159 gross to finish as the fourth runner-up.
Kelani’s victory brought to an end the reign of Muyiwa Olaitan, the immediate past consecutive champion who has won the tournament on eleven various occasions. However, Kelani may find it difficult to defend his championship at the next edition of the tournament as the Ikeja Golf Club is set to complete the landmark Integrated Golf Range Project which should help some of his closest challengers sharpen their skills.
The Club’s Captain, Sina Akinyemi, explained that the project is a state-of-the-art facility that will improve golfing experience for members of the Ikeja Golf Club and aid their practice for major tournaments like the annual championship.
The facility will include Long and Short Game Areas, Practice Range, Virtual Golf Simulation Zone, Lounge, 60-vehicle capacity car park with roof netting among other facilities.
Members of the club are excited about the new project and they hope to leverage the world class facility when commissioned for use ahead of the next edition of the prestigious Ikeja Golf Club Championship.
The competition was supported by ADL Solutions, 7 Up, Express Payment Solutions , Prime Metro and Golf View hotels.
