Nganga is among the 38 players who are in a training camp ahead of the regional showpiece.

Youngster Kelvin Nganga is hopeful of making Team Kenya ahead of the International Cricket Council U19 men’s World Cup Africa Division 1 qualifier scheduled for July 23 to 29 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Nganga, who plays for the Kongonis Cricket Club, is among the 38 players who are in a training camp at the Sikh Union Club ahead of the regional showpiece.

At the end of the training camp, the coach will whittle down the number of players to a suitable number that will travel to Tanzania and Nganga hopes to make the cut.

“I hope to represent my country in the upcoming event. If I make the cut, it will mean a lot to me. It will be a sign that my hard work has paid off well,” he said.

The Kawangware-based youngster added that he is investing more time into training to make his dream come true. He plays as an off-spin bowler.

“I want to perform well during this camp and showcase my talent so I can be selected,” he said.

Nganga also revealed that engaging in the sport has been of so much help to him since he is able to avoid engaging in heinous practices like theft and drug abuse.

“Cricket has changed my life a lot because if I would not be playing, I would have turned into someone different. I am happy to have been given this chance

I started playing with my friends back at home and that’s when I realised I’m good in the sport,” he said.
