In another match, Kenya Police defeated Hippos of Zimbabwe 1-0 courtesy of Sammy Oungo's 47th-minute strike.
Butali Sugar Warriors captain Constant Wakhura has said the team is hoping to win their maiden title at the Africa Cup for Club Champions and he believes their 2-1 win over compatriots Western Jaguars is a sign of a perfect start towards realising that dream.
Moses Ademba and Calvin Kanu came through for Butali as they scored in the first and 36th minutes respectively. Derick Wakwabubi of Western Jaguars clapped back with a 58th-minute score.
He revealed that their main target is to reach the final and hopefully lift the trophy as they have never gotten that chance.
“Our main target is to reach the final…we are working hard for that trophy. We believe this is our time and I hope we realise the dream,” he said, adding that all the teams they will play against are a great threat and they have to do their best in every match.
“This is a perfect start for us because getting three points in our opening match is not easy. It gives us the morale ahead of our next match,” Wakhura said.
Wakhura attested that the match was a tough one considering Jaguars are a young team and they gave them a hard time on the field.
“It was a tough game because they are a young side. They are very fast and we couldn’t keep up with their pace. They were a good opponent,” he said.
He said experience is what saved them from losing the match. “For a young team like them, we had to keep the ball away from them and utilise our chances to the maximum. When they don’t have the ball, they can’t score,” he explained.
