Chipu will be up against strong teams from Scotland, Hong Kong, Samoa, Spain, and Uruguay.

The Kenya Under-20 rugby national team assistant coach Louis Kisia has emphasized on the importance of preparation ahead of the 2023 World Rugby U20 Trophy to be held in Kenya from July 15-30.

Kisia noted that they will have to intensify their preparations ahead of the global showpiece in order to make sure they prove a point.

Chipu will be up against strong teams from Scotland (relegated from the U20 Championship in 2019), Hong Kong (Asia), Samoa (Oceania), Spain (Europe), and Uruguay (South America).

“Our next mission is now to prepare for the Junior World Rugby tournament (JWRT) because if we want success, we have to prepare well. If we do a mediocre preparation then definitely we shall give a mediocre performance.

Ours is definitely going back to the drawing board just to try and right our wrongs. We shall analyse and see how best we shall tackle JWRT when it comes,” he told Nation Sport.

Inexperience saw the young squad lose 28-7 to Zimbabwe during the final of the Barthes Trophy staged at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Chipu had started off their campaign with a dominant 44-20 win over Uganda and extended the hot streak to secure a 24-13 win over Namibia. However, the bask in the glory did not last long as they were silenced by the now two-time champions Zimbabwe.

However, Kisia insists that the squad did their best to salvage the situation in the highly contested match.

“I won’t take anything from the boys since they did their best. They tried to rally behind from the scores but unfortunately we could not manage that,” he said.
