Emma Raducanu played a great match, but Coco Gauff proved too good as she progressed to the third round in brilliant fashion.
Coco Gauff got the job done in the second-round match with Emma Raducanu, taking the need win 6-3 7-6 (4) to reach the third round.
It was quality tennis from both players having periods of great play, yet both dealing with different issues at times.
The first set saw Raducanu hold from 0-30, after starting with a double fault but eventually found her serve. Gauff saved two break points and holds before her serve bailed her out at 2-1.
After saving a couple of break points in the previous game, Gauff got the first break of the match after some errors from the Briton to close at 3-1.
Down break point, Gauff double faults and Raducanu breaks right back. However, the American breaks again to lead 4-2, making it three consecutive breaks in the match.
At 5-2, Gauff tried to close the set-out but Raducanu won't let up and failing to convert her break points, Gauff closed the first set 6-3.
An early break for Gauff in the second set, Raducanu put herself out of trouble by saving two break points but double-faulted on the third. She overcame an injury concern at this stage with a break to love to get the match back on serve at 4-4.
Raducanu backed up her break with a lead of 5-4, but after failing to convert her break points, she missed two opportunities to take the second set.
Gauff saved two set points and held on for 5-5, but Raducanu would hold on to love for 6-5. With Gauff holding on for a second-set tiebreak, she defended well to close the game.
Raducanu was defiant to the end, of which she can take plenty of positivity from the match, having had set points and fought till the end.
Christina Bucsa stuns Bianca Andreescu
Qualifier Christina Bucsa stunned Bianca Andreescu 2-6 7-6(7) 6-4 to progress to the third round.
Other results have 27th seed Irina-Camelia Begu defeat Elizabeth Mandlik 3-6 7-6 (1) 6-2 to reach the round of 32.
Lucrezia Stefanini came from a set down to beat 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist Tatjana Maria 3-6 7-5 6-4 in the first round.
While, 17th seed Jelena Ostapenko overcame Anna Bondar 7-6 5-7 6-0 to make the third round.
Anastasia Potapova took out Sloane Stephens 7-6(2) 6-4 to reach the second round. It's three consecutive first-round losses for Stephens to start the season.
