The ladies side has displayed prowess and readiness for the title again.

The National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) head coach Brian Mathews is hoping for a repeat of last season’s performance as the new Kenya Handball National League takes shape.

The ladies side has displayed prowess and readiness for retaining their title. In their league match played on Saturday, August 5, at the Nyayo National Stadium, they thrashed the National Youth Service (NYS) 41-20 to carry the day.

The veteran tactician is bullish and believes that the team has all it takes to retain the title one more time. However, he is aware of the tough competition that awaits them.

“We are taking every match as a final and hoping that at the end of the season, we shall lift the trophy again.

"It’s going to be a tough league since most of our opponents have signed new players but we are ready for the challenge,” he told NTV Sport.

Meanwhile, NYS head coach Joseph Tanui observed that his team’s approach to the game is what cost them a win against the defending champions.

He added that his team felt a little bit intimidated playing against NCPB since they are the better side.

“The approach of the game was the major undoing. I think the girls also felt a little bit intimidated since they were playing the defending champions.

"However, after the first half, their mentality changed and they were able to score more,” he said.

In other matches played, Nairobi Water silenced Daystar University 48-18. The men’s side, NCPB, also extended the hot streak thrashing Inspired 36-25.
