Jurgen Klopp was in attendance to show emotional support for a friend he's known for over two decades.

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has admired his friend Wojtek Czyz, a multiple Paralympic champion who has overcome a devastating football injury to compete at the highest level.

Klopp was at La Chapelle Arena to support Czyz during his badminton competition at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Czyz lost the game to second seed Briton Daniel Bethell 21-5 21-2, but the support of his friend Klopp was constant.

The pair have been friends for over two decades, developing a strong bond after Czyz suffered a career-ending knee injury that led to his leg being amputated.

Despite losing his match against Briton Daniel Bethell, Klopp acknowledged the significance of Czyz's participation in the game. He praised Czyz's resilience and determination, highlighting the inspiring story behind his journey.

Klopp recalled meeting Czyz in 2015 and being impressed by his passion and commitment to helping others through his Sailing4Handicaps initiative.

He described Czyz as a "super professional athlete" who has overcome immense challenges.

“I couldn’t be prouder of him. Yesterday we were standing in front of the Eiffel Tower and we thought wow, it’s super, super special.

“That’s another thing being here I sit next to his incredible wife Elena, and we both have tears in our eyes, because I know sport is always about results, about winning, but that’s much more behind that story and being here, it’s always so touching that I couldn’t get my head around it,” Klopp said.

Czyz, however, joked that Klopp might be a "curse" after his loss, but he acknowledged the value of Klopp's presence at his event.

He praised Klopp for his advice and support and expressed gratitude for the media attention his friend's presence has brought to para-sports.

“I have to think about it because today was not such a success for me, maybe he’s a curse.

“I enjoyed all five points, Klopp, who left Liverpool at the end of last season after a trophy-laden nine years on Merseyside, replied with a big laugh,” Czyz joked.

Klopp, known for his infectious enthusiasm and motivational speeches, has had a positive impact on Czyz's life.
