EXCLUSIVE: We were just doing what we love - Young Nigerian Guinness World Record holders

Akure-based Philip Solomon and Gbenga Ezekiel are Guinness World Record Holders.

Young Nigerian Guinness World Record holders Solomon Philip and Gbenga Ezekiel have revealed that breaking any record was not part of their plans.

The youngsters said they were only doing what they love doing - Skipping.

Pulse Sports reported that Philip Solomon, a 17-year-old student at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, Ondo State is the Guinness World Record holder for the most skips on one foot in 30 seconds.

His teammate, Gbenga Ezekiel is the Record holder for the most skips on one foot in one minute.

Most skips in 30 seconds on one foot

On January 24, Solomon officially surpassed the previous record holder, Rasel Islam of Bangladesh, who had set a record of 145 skips on one foot in 30 seconds.

Four months after his attempt, Guinness World Records officially confirmed Solomon's records on their website.

The organisation said that they confirmed the records after seeing the video, and Philip was honoured to attend a skipping world championship.

Guinness World Record Certifies Philips

According to Guinness World Records, the most skips in 30 seconds on one foot is 153 and was achieved by Philip Solomon (Nigeria), in Akure, on January 24, 2023.

"Philip was inspired by the previous holder of this record title, Rasel Islam, after seeing a video of their record attempt. He has been training to achieve the record and was honoured to attend a skipping world championship."

Gbenga Ezekiel Feats

On the other hand, Ezekiel, who was in February named the world record holder for the most number of skips on one leg in a minute (265 skips), added another Guinness World Record for rope skipping, bringing Nigeria's total to two.

'We were just doing what we love doing'

During an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports Nigeria, Solomon and Ezekiel told Hassan Abdulsalam that they had no intention of breaking any record when they started out.

According to them, they were just doing what they love doing.

"Skipping has been part of us, we don't know it is something that can be used to get world recognition because we were just doing what we love doing best," Solomon said.

Our correspondent confirmed that the two players are planning to break their own record and set new ones in August.
