Former Kenya Sevens captain Humphrey Kayange claimed victory in the men's category with 43 points and a handicap of 24 at the seventh Alumni Golf Challenge, held at Limuru Country Club over the weekend.
Representing St Peters' Mumias, it was an improvement from the Fifth edition he participated in in 2023, where he finished 15th overall on 34 points, a tournament where his brother Collins Injera also featured in.
Priscilla Waithaka, an alumna of Precious Blood - Riruta, impressed in the Ladies' category with 39 points, while Kakamega School alumnus Michael Zeni defied the odds to secure overall victory among 234 competing golfers.
Zeni, a member of the Kenya Airforce Golf Club and a relative newcomer to the sport, stunned spectators with a handicap of 24, scoring an impressive 44 points.

Golf: Injera and Kayange headline 5th edition of Alumni Golf Challenge
Celebrated brothers put their golfing skills to the test in the 5th edition of the recently concluded Alumni Golf Challenge tournament held at the Vetlab Sports Club Nairobi.
Zeni's triumph not only earned him the championship title but also garnered a seed bursary fund of Ksh100,000 for his alma mater. His remarkable journey from novice to champion in just a year serves as an inspiring tale of dedication and perseverance.
The record-breaking turnout of 234 players from 75 schools across the country underscored the spirit of unity among alumni, highlighting the success of the event, made possible by the generous support of sponsors including Heri Homes, Goodlife Pharmacy, Maridady Motors, Harleys Ltd (Deepheat & Vitabitoics), Bdelo, Securities Africa, Yen Africa, Waridi Eyewear, and Edge Isle.

Kayange considered taking up a coaching role with Shujaa before the administrative duties came calling but has not closed the door on the opportunity.
It also aims to foster a strong sense of community among alumni while providing opportunities for them to utilize their skills and experiences for the betterment of society.

One of its flagship programs involves harnessing the power of sports, particularly through golf tournaments, to empower Alumni to be part of impactful school initiatives.
Passionate golf enthusiasts, who are also proud alumni, are invited participate in these tournaments on behalf of their alma mater.
By taking part in these tournaments, not only do the golfers get to indulge in their favorite hobby, but they also become instrumental in driving change for future generations.
