Federation of Uganda Football Association president Moses Magogo says there needs to be more sports infrastructure in Uganda's way of co-hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.
Kenya president William Ruto, while speaking on Sunday in Nairobi, revealed that Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania intend to submit their joint bid for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.
Reacting to the development, Magogo explained that the Confederations of African Football does not consider what a country has [existing sports infrastructure] but plans and guarantees of making the bid successful.
"Fellow Ugandans, get out of the occupied mindset of negativity. Afcon hosting is awarded on plans and guarantees, not what you have," he tweeted before adding.
"President Museveni and Janet Museveni [Minister of Sports and Education] and the Parliament have already approved the guarantee to host."
Magogo added that Uganda only needs one stadium to guarantee its position as Afcon co-host, and the government has provided the necessary funds to redevelop Namboole Stadium into a FIFA-certified facility.
"The government has already provided Shs97bn to rehabilitate Namboole, and we need only one more stadium. So, let us be positive and move in one direction as a country."
