RUGBY Kenya U18 girls’ rugby 7s announce squad for Youth Commonwealth Games

The Young Lionesses are the only African team in the girl’s rugby category and will be battling for glory against six nations.

The Kenya U18 girls’ national rugby sevens head coach Sarah Agola has selected 13 players who are expected to raise the country’s flag high at the upcoming Commonwealth Youth Games slated for August 4 to 11 in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Young Lionesses are the only African team in the girl’s rugby and they will be chasing for glory as they take on the hosts Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Wales, Australia, and Fiji.

The rugby sevens competition will run between August 6 to 8 in a round-robin format that will see the teams ranked first and second at the close of the pool competing for the gold medal.

The teams in third and fourth places will battle for the bronze medal while the last two teams will compete for fifth place.

The young squad will begin their campaign against Fiji on August 6 at 3:06 a.m. EAT and take on Wales the same day at 6:22 a.m. EAT.

Kenya will then be up against the hosts on August 7 at 3:50 a.m. EAT and later clash with Australia at 7:06 a.m. EAT. They will complete their campaign against Canada on August 8 at 3:06 a.m. EAT.
