Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men’s volleyball team are stepping up their preparations in a quest to improve their fifth-place finish at the upcoming African Clubs Championships scheduled for May 2-22 in Tunis, Tunisia.
During last year’s edition of the continental showpiece, KPA were eliminated in the quarterfinal by arch-rivals Port Doula of Cameroon. The Dockers, however, want to change the narrative this time around.
The Dockers did not rest on their laurels after their bitter exit last year and have been plotting ways to improve.
“We have signed two new players in the team and they have blended well with the older players. We are preparing very well for the event and this time round, people should expect fireworks,” head coach Sammy Mulinge told KTN.

Malkia Strikers head coach Paul Bitok will be going into the polls unopposed in the Deputy President seat.
No Kenyan team has ever won the men’s title since the event began in 1980, however, in 2011, Kenya Prisons came close to winning the title but unfortunately were forced to settle for second place.
During last year’s edition, Al Ahly of Egypt took the title as Esperance Sportive and Gisagara Club, both from Tunisia, settled for second and third places respectively.

The event had been indefinitely postponed due to the sudden demise of KVF boss Waithaka Kioni.
Mulinge highlighted their major undoing is poor reception but he noted that the progress so far looks good.
“There is a great improvement in our right attackers and we also want to improve on our reception and our attacking skills. We are also currently looking into the serving skills of our players so that we can be at an added advantage over our opponents,” he said.
