Kwanthanze and Cheptil Secondary Schools are currently in Morocco for the Africa Schools Championship.

Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) vice president Charles Nyaberi believes the sport is on an upward trajectory ahead of the All African Games and Olympics, both slated for 2024.

Nyaberi observed that having a packed calendar of events is an advantage to the federation as they can easily identify the players who are fit and strong to join the national team ahead of the major competitions.

The women’s first leg of the KVF league also concluded over the weekend and Nyaberi believes with such events flowing seamlessly, there is continuity in the sport and more people would want to play.

Also, in line is the African Club Championships which will see the men’s competition take place from Thursday 9 to Wednesday 22 May while the women’s tournament will serve off on Saturday 13, and end on Friday 26 May, both to be held in Tunisia.

KCB will be returning to defend their title as Kenya Pipeline Company fight for a podium finish.

“We are back on track and we are going full throttle. We have two junior teams in Morocco and I am glad because this shows how much we take our young people seriously. They are a source of our future talent,” Nyaberi said.

Speaking on KBC, he reckoned that having the league up and running is a great way of scouting for talent in the grassroots.

“These clubs always recruit talent from all over the country,” he said.

The women’s league also has newbies Post Bank and Nairobi Water. “We are happy with the high standards the league is getting with the new teams coming in,” he said.
