Kwara State dominates as National Teqball Tour ends in Asaba

The four-day event had over ten states participating in the fast-growing sport in Nigeria.

Kwara State dominated the maiden edition of the Bet9ja Delta State National Teqball Tour.

Pulse Sports reports that the tour started on May 10th and ended on May 13th at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium in Asaba.

Teqball is a fast-growing sport in Nigeria, having made its national tour debut in Delta State.

Kwara State dominates the medal table

After appearing in the finals of all five events, Kwara State emerged as the best of them all and swept the medals.

To win the gold, the powerful Kwara State defeated Taraba 2-0 in the men's doubles final. They also defeated Edo 2-0 in the mixed doubles final and went on to win the women's singles final after defeating Edo 2-0.

Victor Oyemade, the top-ranked Teqball player in Nigeria and the globe, defeated Funsho Samsudeen, a fellow Kwara state player and the fifth-ranked player in Nigeria, 2-0 to win the gold medal in the men's single event for Kwara state. While the women's doubles competition was won by the Edo state team of Gladys Abasi and Success Eke, who triumphed 2-1 over the Kwara state team of Rashidat Salau and Shade against all odds.

In the men's double, Kwara State also took home gold and silver. While the host Delta State could only take home the bronze medal in the women's single event, Edo State's representative, UYI Amengor Teqball Club, defeated Ogun State 2-1 to capture the bronze medal in the men's double.

Victor Ikpeba eyes great future for Teqball in Nigeria

Former African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, revealed that Teqball has come to stay and commended the organizers, players, and sponsors for their efforts.

He said, "Teqball has come to stay in Nigeria, I enjoyed myself today, Let me thank the Delta State Sports Commission for their support, my brother Marvel Dick, who is the Delta State Teqball chairman, for this great feat, and I must also commend the Nigeria Teqball Federation.

"We hope for a bigger and better edition next time, not to forget the winners, players, and officials, please be disciplined and keep up the good work, the future is bright for you all, Ikpeba stated.

Branded jerseys were given out to all the finalists by the sponsor, led by Delta State Teqball Chairman Marvel Dick and assisted by the SSA to Delta State Governor on Sports, Lucky Sunday.
