Lagos shines at National Youth Games, wins 3 gold medals in Swimming

Lagos State has solidified its position as a leading contender for the overall title at the National Youth Games.

Lagos State has continued its dominant performance at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, securing three more medals in the swimming event.

According to Titi Oshodi, the Director of Public Relations of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Chioma Kanu claimed gold in the 50m girls' freestyle, while Sokunbi Tobi won gold in the 200m boys' individual medley.

Ezumba Chidelu, another Lagos swimmer, secured a silver medal in the boys' 200m swimming event.

Oshodi expressed optimism about the team's chances of winning more medals in the remaining events.

"The stellar performances of the Lagos rising stars shored up medal haul in the swimming event to four, heading into the final day of competition of the aquatic event," she stated.

In addition to the swimming victories, Lagos also claimed a bronze medal in weightlifting. Sunday Emmanuel, a young weightlifter, secured the bronze with a total lift of 111kg.

Lagos' success extended beyond the swimming pool and weightlifting arena. The state's female football team defeated the hosts, Delta, 2-0 in a match played at St. Patrick's College. Goals from Kashimawo Temilola and Kemi Adegbuyi secured the victory for the indomitable Eko girls.

In other events, the Lagos volleyball team defeated Bauchi 2-0; Aisha Rabiu and Faisat Musbau claimed gold in the girls' doubles final of the table tennis event.

With these impressive performances, Lagos State has solidified its position as a leading contender for the overall title at the National Youth Games.
