Oyedepo Oluwadamilola Tolulope is part of the 75 student-athletes who were selected from 22 universities and will compete in seven different sports disciplines.

A student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Oyedepo Oluwadamilola Tolulope, has revealed that her mission at the World University Games is to win medals for Nigeria.

Tolulope is one of the 75 student-athletes selected from 22 universities and will compete in seven different sports.

The students were picked at the trials held in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.

Pulse Sports reported that Nigeria will participate alongside other nations in the competition that will take place from July 27 to August 8 in Chengdu, China.

Tolulope want to win Medals for Nigeria

Tolulope, a 200-level student of Human Kinetics, said she has been training and is hoping to meet her targets at the World University Games.

She said, 

"It’s been tough but we don’t stop. I’ve been training relentlessly and with the help of my coach and my teammates, I’m sure I’ll meet my target."

"I was able to make the FISU team thanks to my sister, a doubles partner, a senior and the captain of the school badminton team, Abiola Motunrayo and we both qualified and we’re going together."

The 16-year-old revealed that she picked an interest in Badminton because it was new to her when she was in Junior Secondary School.

She said, "I took interest in the game when I was in Junior Secondary School three, it was at the school dining hall that the court was marked and a senior colleague Obasanmi Jumoke, was training vigorously by Coach Tunmise then. 

"I and my friends picked interest because it was new to us and we find it interesting and we wanted to just play for fun so we do join her for training."

"Later on, I started aiming higher and had to tell my senior colleague that I wanted to join her in training at the stadium because I no longer feel the training at school would be enough for me." 

"She told me to ask for permission at home and I started going to the stadium to train after school and I was received warmly and that made me want to go more and more often."

"Not up to three month that I started,a junior competition was organized and I was given the opportunity to play and I won a silver medal in my first tournament, I was so excited and happy so that made me want to train more and more."

Nigeria is expected to compete for honors in seven games, including Track and Field, Swimming, Badminton, Judo, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, and Tennis.
