Rafael Nadal has announced he's out of the Sunshine Double, putting him in danger of being ranked outside the top 10 for the first time in 19 years.
Rafael Nadal has confirmed he will be out of Indiana Wells and Miami Open, which means he won't come back before the clay season as his injury has failed to heal on time.
The Spaniard disclosed on his Twitter platform that he's sad he won't be competing at the sunshine double.
"I am sad that I won't be able to compete at Indiana Wells nor Miami. Very sad not to be there. I'll miss all my US fans, but I hope to see them later this year during the summer swing," he wrote.
Nadal's injury
The 22-time Grand Slam winner got injured while playing in the second set of the second round at the 2023 Australian Open, a match he lost 4-6 4-6 5-7 to America's youngster Mackenzie McDonald.
An MRI scan will later reveal that the former World No. 1 has suffered a Grade 2 injury to the Iliopsoas and will be out for 6-8 weeks.
Considering the period he was scheduled to be out, he was to miss a return to Dubai and was doubtful for the Indian Wells and Miami Open, but should be available for the clay season.
Nadal is now in danger of leaving the Top 10 for the first time in 19 years.
