National Handball Premier League gets new date

The Nigeria Handball Premier League was originally scheduled to start on June 30 in Benin City, Edo State.

The National Handball Premier League 2023 holding in Benin City, Edo State, has been moved to July 1, 2023

According to the Secretary General of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) Mr. Almu Umar Lambu, the reason for the shift in date which was from June 30th to July 12th 2023, was for some necessary logistics reasons.

Thus the new date is now July 1 to July 13th, with the arrival date being Saturday, July 1, while games commence on the next day. 

22 teams to compete in the Handball League

The 2023 National Handball Premier League is expected to involve 22 teams across the country once it gets underway early next month. 

A breakdown of the teams shows that there will be a total of 12 teams in the men’s category, with 10 for the women’s.

The Premier League is a promotional league where four teams, two each in the men's and women's categories, will get promoted to the top-tier league.

The HFN has advised all the clubs to complete their transfers and loans by June 25, 2023.

Clubs are also expected to complete player registration before the first day of the league matches.

The games will be played at the indoor sports hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and the indoor sports hall of the Etete Sports Complex in Benin City, Edo State.
