National Youth Games: Sports Minister pledges to monitor talents discovered

The 12-year-old gymnast from Delta State won four gold medals in gymnastics.

The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has pledged to monitor the progress of talents discovered at the just concluded National Youth Games in Asaba.

Enoh made this revelation while meeting up with Stephanie Ogechukwu, a rising gymnastic star, at his office in Abuja following her impressive showing at the Youth Games.

Pulse Sports reports that the 12-year-old gymnast from Delta State won four gold medals in gymnastics.

The young athlete won three medals in the 2020 National Sports Festival in Edo: one gold, two silver, and one bronze.

She earned a gold medal in each of the events at the African Club Championship in Pretoria in 2019 and 2022.

Sports Minister declare support for Stephanie

Enoh praised the child for her outstanding accomplishments and assured her that the ministry would closely monitor her personal and professional development.

He said, “I am very proud of you, greater pride and joy is competing for your country and on the national stage. I will be interested in following up with your career as you develop through the coming years.

“The country is excited about talents like this. She has demonstrated huge potential and she is a microcosm of the talent abundance in Nigeria. We are enthusiastic and focused on their development and transition, up to the level of one day being Olympians."

The National Youth Games started in 2013 as an idea conceived by the Federal Government, led by His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

The seventh edition in Asaba, Delta State, continued to fulfill the game's mission of identifying and developing young athletes.
