Nigeria will represent the region at the African Junior Tennis Championship in May.
Team Nigerian emerged as the winner of the West/Central African Junior Tennis Championship in Togo.
The championship is a qualification tournament for the African Junior Tennis Championship later this year.
Team Nigeria Impressive Performance
The Nigerian girls scooped medals in different categories in Lome, Togo.
The U-14 and U-16 girls won gold medals in the Doubles event, after clinching gold in the Singles event.
The U-16 Boys and U-14 Girls won the team event without losing a game, the team comprises of Seun Ogunshakin, Mubarak Ganiyu, Yahaya Sani, Ohunene Yakubu, Etoro Bassey, Nathaniel Aluko, David Edwards, Bright Emmanuel, Khadijat Mohammed, Ndidi Osaji.
The Girls won four gold medals for Nigeria at the ongoing competition and two gold medals in the U-16 category.
Nigeria’s Khadijat Mohammed partnered with Winner Gakpo from Togo to defeat Ndidi Osaji and Bright Emmanuel in the U14 Girls Doubles final.
Yakubu breaks 4 years-old record
Ohunene Yakubu broke Marylove Edwards record after she won two gold medals in the U14 category.
Marylove Edwards won two gold medals at the African Junior Tennis Championship in 2018.
Yakubu proved why she is one of Nigeria’s best junior talents with her performance in Togo.
Team Nigeria has five gold medals from a possible eight in the Singles and Doubles event for both 14 and 16 boys and girls.
The players will return to Lagos tomorrow to participate in the Azimuth Shipping Lines Limited Junior Tennis Championship.
