The U-19 African Table Tennis champions helped the Portuguese club to win first trophy.
The African Youth U-19 boys' Table Tennis champions, Mati Taiwo helped his Portuguese club, Ginasio clube de Valbom to win its first trophy.
Mati is currently ranked 100 in the current International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings and ranked number one in Africa joined the Portuguese club before the season start.
He was instrumental as the club came second in the Portugal Cup after the losing the final to sporting clube de Portugal 3-0.
Taiwo's impressive Performance in 2022
The reigning African U19 champion had an impressive year, with different medals on the continent and representing the continent at international games.
He produced one of the biggest upsets on the continent in the year beating African legends including Ahmed Saleh, and Segun Toriola among others
Two believed with a high level of discipline, hard work, and consistency, he would become the first African to win a medal at the Olympics.
The Nigeria young table tennis sensation made the list of 13 beneficiaries of the 2021 International Table Tennis Federation scholarship.
He said that his dream is to play at the Olympics, saying, “My dream is not just to qualify for the Olympics, I want to win medals at the Games, and I know I can achieve that through dedication, hard work and consistency.”

Taiwo is following the path of African champion, Aruna Quadri and Bode Abiodun who dominated Portugese table tennis for over Five years.
The duo won the Portuguese Cup five time consecutively with Sporting.
