Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba has awarded Team Kenya tennis players and coach bonuses of Ksh 50,000 for their exemplary performance at the ongoing Billie Jean King Cup Africa Africa Group III tournament at the Nairobi Club.
Team Kenya has displayed prowess in their matches with Angella Okutoyi winning all of her singles matches in the tournament. In the doubles matches, Team Kenya lost to Nigeria.

Team Kenya suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in the Billie Jean King Cup doubles on Friday afternoon.
Others on the team include Alicia Owegi, Roselida Asumwa, Cynthia Wanjala, and Stacy Yego who did Team Kenya proud through their playing prowess. They are under the tutelage of head coach Francis Rogoi.
The bonuses come as an additional prize to the player’s allowances making the full amount Ksh 128,000 per player, which shall be deposited directly to the player's account, by the Ministry.
The CS noted that the monetary awards were in sync with what the ministry is implementing through the flagship of the Talanta Hela initiative, which seeks to transform talents into formal careers, that pay well and support livelihoods.
He also commended the girls for their exemplary performance at the tournament, assuring them of the government's support to help take their tennis careers to the next level.
