TENNIS Okutoyi maintains unbeaten streak by silencing Nigeria’s Osabuohien in her fifth singles match

Kenya leads Group A with the maximum number of points having won all their matches so far.

Kenya's teenage tennis sensation Angela Okutoyi on Friday morning destroyed Nigeria’s Adesuwa Osabuohien in her fifth singles match at the Billy Jean King Cup Africa Group III tournament at the Nairobi Club.

Okutoyi showed class as she silenced her Nigerian opponent. Her mind games put her at the forefront as she took the first set 6-2. As fans cheered on, Okutoyi came charged up for the second set to win 6-0.

She has maintained consistency and has not lost any match since the event started. In her opening match, the tennis star won 2-0 (7-5 and 6-3) over Morocco’s El Allami Malak on Monday.

In her second singles game on Tuesday, she also stamped authority on home soil with a 2-0 win over Botswana’s Chelsea Chakanyuka. The 18-year-old won the first set 6-1 before destroying Chakanyuka in the second, winning 6-2.

In her third singles match, Okutoyi put up a good fight to shock Uganda’s Patience Athieno 2-0 and deny her a chance in scoring a point in any of the two sets. The first set saw her win 6-0 and she maintained the same momentum to take the second one in style.

She then maintained the momentum in her fourth singles match on Thursday after silencing Namibia's Liniques Theron 2-0 as she took the first set 6-1 and went ahead to completely annihilate her in the second set where she won 6-0.

Kenya leads Group A with the maximum number of points having won all their matches so far. Nigeria lost their first match 2-1 to top seed Morocco on Thursday, June 15, and will be looking to give the Kenyans a run for their money.
