The underage tennis championship will take place at Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, from Monday to Saturday.
The Organizers of the annual Azimuth Shipping Lines Limited Junior Tennis Championship have revealed that over 200 young tennis Players will be participating in this year’s edition.
The underage Tennis championship will be held at Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, from Monday to Saturday.
Winners will earn N100,000
The Tournament Director, Coach Richard Inyang, said the winner from each category will go away with N100,000.
He explained further that the prize money increased for this edition, adding that the cash prize will start from the Quarterfinalists.
He said, “This year promises to be different as the sponsor has assured us that his prizes will start from the quarterfinal.
“Losing Quarter-finalists will be going home with N20,000, Semi-finalists will be going home with N30,000 then the Runners-up will be going home with N50,000 while the winner will go home with N100,000.
Inyang said the cash prize will not be given to the players, saying it will be an education grant to support their education.
“The cash prizes are in the form of education grants to the players, though, because we don’t give out cash to junior players. All of these will be alongside gift items, of course, and trophies, for the winners and runners-up in all the categories,” he said.
The junior Tennis coach added that the players will be given the best hospitality in this year's edition.
“We’re not lodging them at the Stadium this year, it is a different arrangement altogether better than ever, they’re going to be lodged in Lekki, precisely Comfort Court Apartment in Richmond Estate, Ikate – Lekki, and they’ll be given their meals in the same apartment.
However, the players that won the West/Central African Junior Tennis Championship in Togo will be leading the championship in Lagos.
