The rising star of Ugandan golf, Peter Tumusiime, has clinched an inspiring victory in the first leg of the NCBA Golf Series in Uganda, signifying a milestone in his illustrious career.

This victory is a testament to the golfer's unwavering dedication, which he clearly conveyed, "The grind is good, I am putting in the work, effort, and time. I am happy that I have reached this moment."

Tumusiime, who began his golfing journey in 2017 at the Tooro Golf Club in Fort Portal, progressed to join the Uganda Golf Club in 2020.

The journey has not been without its obstacles; the COVID-19 lockdown posed significant challenges for the golfer.

But Tumusiime, currently a Business Administration student at YMCA, has adeptly managed his academic and athletic commitments.

He attends weekend classes, saving weekdays for grueling training sessions that have evidently paid off.

Playing off handicap zero (scratch), Tumusiime gave an unrivaled performance at the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante.

He triumphed with an overall gross score of 69, beating over 200 golfers, including 180 club members and 20 guests.

His quick start, registering birdies on holes no 1, 2, 3, and 17 and an eagle on hole no. 16, set him apart from his competition.

"I have won a couple of trophies thus far, but this is by far my biggest trophy to date, and it is a huge boost for me to keep grinding for bigger titles," Tumusiime commented.

Amid the pressures of balancing education and a blossoming golf career, Tumusiime has proven that he is not just a golfer to watch, but one who can truly lead the pack.

"I am sure this is not the last, so there is much more to come am sure," he confidently stated. And we are certain, the world of golf has its eyes set on this rising Ugandan star.

He is looking forward to the 2023 Uganda Open with heightened enthusiasm, stating, "I am currently preparing for the Uganda Open, it is around the corner, and this victory should boost my mood going into the open."

Alongside Tumusiime's victory, several other golfers distinguished themselves in various categories.

In the men's division, 2022 Uganda Amateur Open winner Joseph Cwinyai recorded the best gross score of 72, closely followed by Aggrey Mutaka with a gross score of 76.

Judith Komugisha emerged as the champion of the Ladies' category with a gross score of 78, outdoing Wendy Angudeyo by a single stroke.

The Junior category saw Shaka Kaliisa take home the crown with a gross score of 90, while the best guest performer title went to Joseph Kasozi, returning a gross score of 76.

Lawrence Omony and Patricia Basaza triumphed with net scores of 66 and 68, respectively.

Tumusiime, along with the winners of the other categories, will represent the Uganda Golf Club at the Grand NCBA Series Open in Sigona, Kenya, in December.

The NCBA Series will continue with another leg at the Entebbe Golf Club in September, followed by rounds in Rwanda, Tanzania, and the final leg in Kenya.
