The games, which return for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic will be held from Friday, April 7th to Monday, April 10th, with teams expected to arrive on Thursday.

Over 100 teams from more than 40 Islamic-based schools have confirmed participation at this year’s UMEA Solidarity Games.

The games, which return for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic will be held from Friday, April 7th to Monday, April 10th, with teams expected to arrive on Thursday, April 6th.

This year's tournament will be hosted by Kawanda Secondary School in Wakiso, which has expressed its readiness to accommodate and cater for all participating schools.

The tournament will feature six disciplines, including football, handball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and netball for girls, as well as an exhibition woodball event.

In addition to sports competitions, the UMEA Solidarity Games aim to foster relationships among Muslim schools, with this year’s games running under the theme ‘The Environment and Us’.

Speaking about the event, Hajji Kitezaala Muhammed, the chairperson of the games, said, "This is a special edition because we are hosting it in the month of Ramadan, and everyone who takes part will be blessed."

“Last year we were not ready to organize the games because of the congested calendar of sports events but this time we are very ready to have the tournament,” he added.

Kawanda SS last held the games in 2006, with Kibuli Secondary School emerging victors after defeating Kasawo SS.

Kawanda SS Headmaster, Ahmed Bukenya Kamoga revealed that the school is ready host the games.

“Kawanda SS, is very prepared, ready and only waiting for kick off on Friday. We are very ready in the areas of accommodation, playing areas, welfare and the rest.”

“I want to assure all the participating schools that Kawanda is ready to receive you. The community and students are looking forward to welcome you,” he said.

The opening ceremony will be held on Friday at 2 PM at Kawanda Secondary School, with the Director of Basic Education, Hajji Mulindwa Ismail, the guest of honor.

Six different venues across Uganda will host the tournament, including Kawanda SS, Kawanda Agricultural Research Institute, Namalere, Mbogo Mixed SS, Brixton Jokolera, Kawempe Muslim SS, and Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

Notable schools that have confirmed participation in the event include the hosts Kawanda Secondary School, Kawempe Muslim Secondary School, Mbogo Mixed, Mbogo High School, Kinaawa High, Masaka Secondary School and Kibuli Secondary School.
