The 18-year-old member of the Milnerton golf club in Cape Town returned an impressive 3-under 69 during round two action, making him the top golfer of the day.

South African junior golfer Jack Buchanan stole the show on day two of the 2023 All Africa Junior Golf Championship with an outstanding performance at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa.

The 18-year-old member of the Milnerton golf club in Cape Town returned an impressive 3-under 69 during round two action, making him the top golfer of the day.

Buchanan's highlight of the day came on the par-3 hole 11 when he scored a hole-in-one, a feat that took him by surprise.

"It was such a great feeling. It came as a surprise definitely," Buchanan exclaimed at the end of the day at the clubhouse.

Using an 8-Iron from 170 meters, Buchanan's ball bounced in front of the pin and backspun into the hole, creating a historic moment.

Buchanan had previously achieved a similar feat with a hole-in-one in Durban during a tournament last year.

"My two playing mates; Ronan Vallet (Mauritius) and Todd Parker (Namibia) shouted as the ball rolled to the hole before we hugged," Buchanan narrated, recalling the excitement of the moment.

Buchanan's impressive performance contributed to South Africa's continued dominance at the championship in both the boys and girls' clusters.

Keagan Crosbie (70), Buchanan (69), Jaden Deltel (74), and Amilkar Bhana (70) were the top scores for South Africa after round two.

This helped South Africa maintain a significant lead of 41 strokes in the boys' category and 43 strokes in the girls' category.

Meanwhile, the host country Uganda slipped from second to third place in the boys' ranking after the second round. Juma Abiti, who had played 6-over 78 on day one, struggled with inconsistency, choosing the wrong clubs and missing putts, resulting in a score of 78 again on day two.

Ibrahim Ssemakula's performance also declined from 74 during the first round to 86 on day two. Despite Abdul Kakeeto's improvement with a score of 80 during round two, Uganda's team total of 240 for the day was not enough to maintain their second-place position.

In the girls' category, Uganda's performance remained consistent but not yet competitive enough for the top spots.

Frista Birabwa improved by four strokes from 86 to 82, and Vivian Achen contributed a score of 89, which counted for the day's total.

However, Uganda remained in fourth place out of ten teams, with South Africa leading the girls' category as well.

South African girl Kyra Van Kan also had an outstanding performance, notching five birdies and only two bogies to achieve a score of 69.
