Team Nigeria departs for China to participate in World University Games

The first batch will arrive in China on Wednesday, July 26, with 33 delegates.

Team Nigeria has departed for the World University Games taking place in Chengdu, China.

Pulse Sports had earlier reported that the World University Games will run from July 28 to August 8 in Chengdu, China.

The first batch of athletes representing Nigeria left Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday.

Nigeria is expected to compete for honours in seven games, including Track and Field, Swimming, Badminton, Judo, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, and Tennis.

Team Nigeri a will be represented by 75 student-athletes who were selected from 22 universities to represent the country in seven different sports disciplines.

I want to change the narratives and make Nigeria Proud - Blessing

One of Nigeria’s representatives named Blessing, a 400-level student told Pulse Sports Nigeria that her mission in China is to change the false narrative that Nigerian youths are scammers.

The History and International Studies student also vowed to educate the world about Nigerian culture.

She said, 

"My role as an athlete is to promote the spirit of Nigeria at the International University Sports and Foster Cultural Exchange during the FISU Games by playing by the rules and abiding by those rules, because of the notion that we scammers. Also, I'm going to educate them about our cultural diversity."

With just three days left to the commencement of the games, it is expected that all Nigerian representatives will touch down in time so as to get ready to do the nation proud.
