'They are aiming for medals' - Nigerian Wrestlers set for glory at Paris 2024 Olympics

The team boasts five talented female wrestlers and one male wrestler who will battle for medals in Paris.

The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has announced the team that will represent the nation at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The team boasts five talented female wrestlers and one male. The lone male wrestler representing Nigeria is Ashton Mutuwa, competing in the 125kg freestyle category.

Tokyo Olympic silver medalist, Blessing Oborodudu will bring her experience and fighting spirit to Paris in the 68kg category, while reigning African champion Odunayo Adekuoroye will be searching for medal in the 57kg category.

Military world champion Hannah Reuben will be in the 76kg category, while Esther Kolawole and Ogunsanya Christinah will be making their Olympic debut in the 62kg category and in the 53kg category, respectively.

Guiding the athletes are coaches Victor Kodei, Purity Akuh, and Happiness Burutu, ensuring the team receives the best possible support.

Confident Leadership

NWF President Daniel Igali expressed optimism about the team's chances, stating: "We are confident the wrestlers will put up a good performance. They are training hard and aiming for medals."

The Bayelsa State Government hosted a farewell ceremony, urging the athletes to compete with integrity and bring laurels home.

The team departs for Spain on July 3rd for a pre-Olympic tournament in Madrid. This will be followed by a final training camp in Germany before heading to Paris.
