Frank Nazar is American and was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, and played his youth hockey in the Detroit area.

Frank Nazar was born to his mother, Gina Nazar and his father Frank Nazar Sr in the city of Mount Clemens in Michigan where he was raised.

His mother, Gina Nazar reportedly works at Great lakes custom Builder LLC as an operational manager. 

She is said to have attended the University of Detroit Mercy from 1991 to 1995 to earn a degree in Dental Hygiene Hygienist.

She has a wide range of specialized technical abilities and is vast in management of operations, financial reporting, management of human resources, leadership of cross-functional teams, proficiency in QuickBooks, time management.

Frank Nazar Sr, the father of the hockey star has a home in New Baltimore, which is located in the state of Michigan in the United States.

He reportedly amassed experience in the food service industry. He went to high school at Grosse Pointe South, he then went on to earn his Serv-Safe certification.

He also reportedly served as the owner and CEO of Gino’s Surf for a total of twelve years and four months, during which time he gained valuable experience. Even the food operations at Soprano’s Catering were under his management.

Later on in the year 2016, beginning in the month of October, he started working at Healthcare Service Group Inc. as the kitchen manager as well as the director of operations.

Frank Nazar Jr credits his father Frank Nazar Sr for his interest in Ice Hockey as he used to take him to games as a child.

“My dad used to own a parking garage in downtown Detroit and he’d park all the people for the Red Wings games across from the rink, from that, he just became a huge hockey fan and even was in the parades when they won the Stanley Cup,” said the hockey star.

Nazar continued, “Growing up, watching him watch the games was what got me into it. One day, he asked me if I wanted to play and I said yes.”

Where did Frank Nazar go to high school and college?

There is no record of Frank Nazar in high school, his career began within the Honeybaked and Little Caesar’s AAA youth programs.  

In 2019, Nazar announced his commitment to the University of Michigan out of loyalty to the Salt Lake state, the young man is Detroit through and through.

He played in the NCAA for Michigan after which he was drafted 13th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

“Those two teams are big for Michigan. They do a great job on representing the players and the teams that come through. It’s nice to have such a hockey town surrounding them. It’s nice being able to play in your hometown and having them support you rather than having to go all across the country searching for good hockey,” said Nazar on his hockey background.

Frank Nazar participated in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program for two seasons and gave a good account of himself.

“It was really a dream come true. I’ve always pictured it, coming to the games when I was younger, playing on this team and to be honest I had no clue what I would do if I didn’t make it. For me, it was about putting it all out there, but it’s been really great to have my family at all my games,” Nazar said about his involvement with the NTDP.

During the 2021–22 season, he played in 56 games and recorded 28 goals and 42 assists for a total of 70 points, which was good for third place on the squad.

Nazar was one of the competitors at the 2022 BioSteel All-American Game after which he joined the Michigan Wolverines for his collegiate career during the 2022–23 academic year.

Frank Nazar was selected 13th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks selected him with the 13th overall pick overall.

Injuries have not been kind to young Frank and it was recently announced that he won’t participate in training camp with the Blackhawks this fall because he will be in training camp in preparation for his sophomore season at the University of Michigan. At the Winter Youth Olympics in 2020, Nazar competed for the United States and won a silver medal after tallying three goals and two assists over four games played.

At the 2022 IIHF World U18 Championships, in which Nazar participated on behalf of the United States, he earned a silver medal after tallying three goals and six assists across the six games that were played.

What happened to Frank Nazar?

Nazar arrived at the University of Michigan suffering from a nagging hip injury in 2022 which has really hampered his progress so far.

He initially tried to play through it but finally decided it would be best to undergo a surgery to correct the issue once and for all as it was his first major injury. 

Is Frank Nazar injury-prone?

Frank Nazar underwent surgery in October 2022 and wasn’t expected to return until at least February 2023 and even potentially out for the entire season. 

He overcame the physical and mental trauma by working on stickhandling and shooting skills which helped his recovery to be right on track as he returned in February to compete in 13 games with the Wolverines.

Nazar contributed two goals and seven points, but something was clearly missing as he was not the same dynamic self he displayed last season with the USNTDP.

The following season in 2021/22, Nazar played 56 games in the United States Hockey League with 28 goals, 42 assists and 70 points.

He only played 13 games for Michigan University though with two goals and five assists and seven points.
