KCB brushed aside Catholic Monks 79-19, a record Kenya Cup victory for the Bankers.

KCB assistant coach Andrew Amonde was delighted by the display shown by his side’s young charges as they brushed aside Catholic Monks 79-19 in their second match of the 2023/24 Kenya Cup fixture match played at the CUEA Grounds, Lang’ata Saturday evening.

The Monks took an early lead within the initial minutes of the game, capitalizing on a momentary lapse in the banker’s defense, securing the bragging rights to the first try.

KCB's Captain, Grifin Musila, responded promptly, scoring the first try for the bankers and inspiring a remarkable comeback. Thomas Jimbo, Felix Ojoo, and Elvis Olukusi followed suit, each grabbing a try, enabling the visitors to establish a commanding 24-16 lead by halftime.

In the second half, Vincent Onyala and Austin Sikutwa secured a brace each, while Elvis Olukusi and Felix Ojoo added their second tries of the game before Bob Muhati signed off the scoring for the bankers.

"We are introducing new and young talent to the squad,” Amonde said as quoted by Agencies.

“Today, they played exceptionally well, filling in for some of our sidelined players. We hope to have a full squad for the next game.”

Despite the dominant performance, KCB was somewhat inefficient in try-conversions during the second half, preventing them from securing the maximum points from the game.

“This was a fair game, and I must congratulate the boys. We started on a low but picked up the momentum, and the results speak for themselves. As the league is in its early stages, our focus is on building a strong team to ensure victories in the upcoming matches.”

KCB faced the challenge of missing the services of Darwin Mukidza, who sustained an injury during the league opener against Nondies last weekend.

In the Division II fixtures, KCB’s ESS team dominated Catholic Monks with a resounding 84-00 victory at the same venue.

KCB RFC is set to host Homeboyz in their next match at the KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka.
