After falling short in the Nile Special Rugby Premier League that concluded two months ago, the Legends side started the National Sevens Series in the same kit.

It is nearly two years since Betway left the Ugandan market and the sports scene, having sponsored some of the country’s top sports brands.

Power Basketball Club, Express FC and Kobs Rugby Club are some of the franchises that benefitted from Betway’s stay.

The gaming company was the headline sponsor for the three sides, but its departure meant moving on and finding other ways of survival.

And if the kits worn by the three teams are anything to go by, only two have moved on.

Express have since switched to Bet Sure, while Power unveiled Dmark as their new sponsor at the start of the National Basketball League season.

For Kobs, the Betway kits continue to serve the purpose.

After falling short in the Nile Special Rugby Premier League, the Legends side started the National Sevens Series in the same kit.

“We shall start the new season in a new kit,” Kobs Chairman Tonny Stone Luggya assured Pulse Sport.

Luggya became Kobs chairman in December 2021, and having inherited the same kit, it remains to be seen when the new leadership will land a headline sponsor and change kits.

For now, however, all focus is on the Sevens Championship, which kicked off with the Stone City Sevens at Dam Waters, Jinja, over the weekend.

Kobs fell 19-7 to Stanbic Black Pirates in the final of the two-day event despite scoring the first points of the game.

Justin Kimono raced to the try early in the first half while James Ijongat added the extras to hand the Blue Army a 7-00 lead.

But Timothy Kisiga (2) and Arnold Atukunda scored for the Sea Robbers to win the first of the seven circuits on schedule.

It is still early in the race to the title, but one thing for sure is that Kobs will still be donning their beloved Betway kit.
