Emmanuel Katuntu's side has lost their two games so far at the tournament and now must win their 7th/8th placement game against Madagascar on Sunday to avoid relegation, something Katuntu says they're ready to do at all costs.

It is always tough when a team is on the back foot in a tournament, as with the Baby Cranes, Uganda's U-20 rugby team, competing at the Barthes trophy in Nairobi, Kenya.

Emmanuel Katuntu's side has lost their two games so far at the tournament and now must win their 7th/8th placement game against Madagascar on Sunday to avoid relegation, something Katuntu says they're ready to do at all costs.

"It's been tough in the past two games, injuries and decision-making cost us, but we can't give up now because we must win against Madagascar," Katuntu told Pulse Sports.

"We need to win regardless; we are going to give everything and ensure that we leave the team where we found it."

Uganda first lost to the hosts Kenya 44-20 before losing to Zambia 21-13, and Katuntu adds that as coaches, they are doing everything to lift the players' spirits.

"It's tough on everyone, but it's our job to lift their spirits; either way, we have to win on Sunday."

Uganda finished sixth in 2022 at the Barthes Cup, and now they will have to fight to avoid relegation from the competition.

Kenya will take on Zimbabwe in the final after they beat Namibia 24-13 on Wednesday.

The defending champions, Zimbabwe, beat Tunisia 60-06 earlier that day.
