The organisers of the sevens, Walukuba Rugby Club made a big stride over the weekend after meeting HRH The Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope IV to discuss rugby development.

The Busoga Kingdom is looking to capitalise on the gains from the Kyabazinga Sevens to spread Rugby to the region.

The organisers of the sevens, Walukuba Rugby Club made a big stride over the weekend after meeting HRH The Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope IV.

According to Duncan Kawanguzi, a member of Walukuba RFC and executive committee member representing upcountry at the Uganda Rugby Union, the parties discussed ways to build on the gains of the sevens tournament that were held on September 2nd and 3rd.

“It was such a good moment to discuss with our king ways how we can grow the sport and he welcomed the idea,” Kawanguzi tipped Pulse Sports about the discussions.

Pulse understands that URU’s hierarchy and some leaders at the kingdom had a discussion on how to make the Kyabazinga Sevens a permanent fixture in the national sevens calendar.

The rights to hold the Kyabazinga 7s were awarded to Walukuba last year and was voted the best by fans through the Nile Special platforms.

That prompted the union to return it to Jinja in a bigger and better way as the grand finale of the entire series.

Stanbic Black Pirates won the circuit as they swept the overall prize at the end.
