However, Five match days into the season, the Kobs's loose forward was topping the tries leaderboard, and that's when it struck him that he could step it up and equal the most tries to record.

When the Nile Special Rugby Premiership got underway on 14th January 2023, it was a normal season start for all players, including Pius Ogena at Kobs.

However, Five match days into the season, the Kobs's loose forward was topping the tries leaderboard, and that's when it struck him that he could step it up and equal the most tries to record.

"At first, it (equaling the record) wasn't on my mind, but after five matchdays, I realized I could give it a go, so I decided to work harder because many people have tried and were unsuccessful," Ogenda told Pulse Sports.

Ogena finally equalled Allan Musoke and Justine Kimono's record of the most tries in a season (22) during Kobs's bonus point win over Impis.

"It feels great to equal those two guys (Allan Musoke and Justine Kimono); now let's see what Saturday has for us."

Asked about how Kobs plan to approach the title decider against the Black Pirates, Ogena stressed that the Kobs' pack will be key.

"Saturday is a do or die; we are going out all guns blazing, any team can win, but our pack should be key; they (Pirates) have good runners, so we have to be compact."

The Nile Special Rugby Premiership will wrap up on Saturday, 13th April, with Kobs and Pirates squaring off for the title; the game will kick off at 4 pm.

Kobs currently lead the table standings with 75 points, level with the Black Pirates, while Heathens sit third with 72 points.
