In the Enterprise Cup final, Kabras successfully defended their title after securing a 30-27 win over arch-rivals KCB.

Kabras Sugar RFC assistant coach and head of the development programs, Edwin Achayo has revealed that investing more time into training is what has propelled the team to retain both their Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup titles.

In the Enterprise Cup final staged at the RFUEA Grounds on Saturday, April 15, Kabras dug deep to overturn an 18-0 lead and clinch the cup after a narrow 30-27 win over arch-rivals KCB.

In the Kenya Cup final at the Kakamega Show Ground on Saturday, March 11, the Sugar Millers also put up a good fight to secure a 19-9 win over KCB.

“It’s a lot of hard work if I’m being honest. Behind the scenes, there’s a lot that happens. The boys have had to invest more time into training and I applaud them for the great performance,” he said.

Going forward, Achayo said they cannot get too comfortable and they have to step up preparations ahead of the next season. He revealed that they also need to be wise in their selection of a formidable squad.

“Being champions is not easy and we cannot afford to be complacent. Once you get to the top everyone wants to knock you down and we even have to be smarter in our training regime going forward,” he said.

Achayo believes the win is a good way to end the season and it will help strengthen the mentality of the squad. He added that it will give the boys the morale to always keep fighting and not give up.

The team comprised of mostly young players who were making their first appearances on such a big stage with Achayo revealing that they will be keen on giving the youngsters opportunities to play with quality opponents.

“We pride ourselves in doing a lot of development work and this shows that we are on the right track. Some of these boys have never played on such a platform and I am glad that they are gaining experience which is good for us,” he said.
