Kabras and KCB are the favourites as they are separated by just two points heading into the penultimate leg of the National Sevens Circuit but rivals will be hoping to upset the formbook

Kabras Sugar will be seeking a return to the winners’ podium while KCB eye back-to-back cup wins at the penultimate leg of the National Sevens Circuit, the Tisap Sevens in Eldoret this weekend.

With Kabras leading KCB by just two points in the standings, it promises to be a thrilling weekend of sevens rugby as the quest to be crowned Kenyan club sevens champions in 2023 goes a notch higher.

KCB, winners of the Christie Sevens last month play out of Pool A that also features Blak Blad, Homeboyz and Mombasa RFC.

Strathmore Leos, losing finalists at the RFUEA Ground headline Pool B and will contend with the challenge from defending circuit champions Menengai Oilers, Catholic Monks, and Masinde Muliro.

Circuit leaders Kabras have Kenya Harlequin, Daystar Falcons, and Kisumu RFC to deal with in Pool C while Nakuru leads the charge in Pool D which also features Mwamba, Nondescripts, and the University of Eldoret Trojans who will be playing in the top tier in their home town.

Kabras’ lead at the top of the National Sevens Circuit standings was reduced to just two points following their third-place finish at the Christie Sevens in Nairobi.

KCB claimed the Christie Sevens title following a 17-12 win over Strathmore Leos in the Cup final to cut the sugar millers’ advantage with the leaders now on 80 points while the bankers have 78.

Victory saw KCB return to the winners’ podium for the second time after their cup triumph in the season-opening Dala Sevens before following it up with back-to-back third-place finishes at Driftwood and Prinsloo Sevens.

It was a tough outing for Kabras who had come into the tournament as heavy favourites, having reached the final of the opening three legs of the National Sevens Circuit, winning in Mombasa and Nakuru.

The two appear favourites for the overall crown and the Eldoret tournament might provide a clear picture of where the title is headed.

Kabras will, however, have to do it without flyhalf Jone Kubu who is serving an 11-match suspension for stamping on an opponent at the Christie Sevens.
