Katywa has revealed that, although he will not underestimate the Varsity side, it will be necessary to give some of his fringe players some minutes considering he has a large squad.

Kabras Sugar RFC head coach Carlos Katywa has revealed why he will have to rest some of his senior players for their third clash of the season against Catholic Monks this weekend.

Kabras have gotten their 2023/2024 Kenya Cup campaign off to a good start, winning both of their games, and they will be seeking to keep the run going in their final clash of the year against Monks, who were badly battered by KCB 79-19 in their last outing.

Katywa has revealed that, although he will not underestimate the Varsity side, it will be necessary to give some of his fringe players some minutes considering he has a large squad.

“We will have to see what we can improve on without undermining our opponents,” Katywa said.

“We will have to rest some of the big guns because also we feel like that some of the boys have been clocking a lot of minutes in large numbers.

“I feel going into the Christmas break, we can actually be comfortable allowing them to sit this one out.”

Katywa insists that he wants to underload some of his national team players considering the fact that most will be needed for international duty in what is expected to be a packed 2024 for Kenyan rugby.

“We will have to sit down and look at the reviews of the previous game. We have got a large squad but we have to be careful with how we load our senior players as well as our national team players.”

Kabras are the reigning Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup champions.
