Shujaa will be the first Kenyan team in action at the Paris 2024 Olympics and here is what you need to know and how you can catch them in action at the Stade de France.
The Stade de France will play host to the sevens matches which will begin at the group stage on Wednesday and Thursday.
Wednesday July 24: Argentina vs Kenya (5pm Kenyan time)
The Argentines will offer Kenya a major test given they topped the standings in last season’s World Sevens Series and Kevin Wambua’s men played in the second tier Challenger Series in 2024.
Kenya and Argentina meetings have ended in favour of the South Americans in recent years but that will have to change on Wednesday if Shujaa have to avoid an early elimination.
Wednesday July 24: Australia vs Kenya (8pm Kenyan time)
Shujaa will then face Australia in their second group match, hoping that they do not get in under immense pressure.
The Australians finished fourth in the World Series, meaning Shujaa’s work is cut out. A good result will be a major confidence booster heading into the final group game.
Thursday July 25: Samoa vs Kenya (3pm Kenyan time)
Wambua’s side then have a date against Samoa on Thursday which will complete group stage action.
They will need to be among the top two to seal their place in the quarter-final, which will take place on Thursday, to stay in contention for a medal.
What else is there to know?
The rugby sevens ranking matches and the final will take place on July 27 as International Olympics Committee rules demand that no medals are awarded and no athletes are eliminated before the opening ceremony.
Where to watch?
The matches will be live on SuperSport TV and KBC TV.
