Katywa broke down the schedule of the side’s training sessions and declared clarity session a success.

Kenya Simbas assistant coach Carlos Katywa believes that the sessions the Kenya national 15s side, Kenya Simbas are having in South Africa are very productive ahead of their EP Elephants clash at the Port Elizabeth stadium this weekend in the ongoing Mzansi Challenge competition.

Simbas have been in South Africa for close to a fortnight now. They put in a spirited performance in a 23-33 loss to American side, the San Clemente Rhinos, which exposed details that needed “clarity” in training which head coach Jerome Paarwater and his assistants needed to oversee.

Ahead of the match against Elephants, Katywa broke down the schedule of the side’s training sessions on Monday afternoon, and insisted that the day’s clarity session was successful.

“We had a very productive first day for the match week this morning,” we had clarity and got the players to see the EP Game where we looked at the trends, where they are doing well and not so well,” he added.

“We looked at what they did well and not so well. Our strengths and weaknesses and what we want to execute for the weekend.

“I was focusing on the backline. Which areas of concern we want to exploit with the EP Side. We also worked on our weaknesses.

“We will work on some unit skills, have the day off on Wednesday and then do the mini-captains run on Thursday.”

Simbas are taking part in the Mzansi Challenge as part of the building blocks to build a team for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, after having missed out on qualification for this year’s edition.
