Simbas conceded a last-minute, well-converted try in the dying minutes of their Mzansi Challenge Cup against the Namibians.

The men's national 15s side, Kenya Simbas put up a spirited second-half performance but came unstuck against Namibian side Welwitschias, as they lost 35-28 in a Currie Cup First Division match staged in Windhoek, Namibia.

Welwitschias drew first blood when they switched the ball wide to land a try in the corner, and perfectly executed the resulting conversion. They would make it 14-0 just moments later, having repeated the same move.

The Namibians would then land their third converted try, and it got Simbas a real mountain to climb.

The deficit would be reduced by Brian Ndirangu, who landed Kenya’s first try of the match before Ntabeni Dukisa converted it well as they trailed 21-7 heading to the half time break.

The Welwitschias landed their fourth converted try just soon after the break, having pounced on a lapse of concentration by the Kenyans.

However, the deficit seemed to ignite a fire into Kenya players’ bellies, and vice-captain, Samuel Asati set up Walter Okoth to land their second try off a breakdown before Dukisa converted it well.

Beldad Ogeta would then make a big run for Simbas before Teddy Akala went over the whitewash. Dukisa did not disappoint with the conversion yet again.

Elkeans Musonye restored parity for the visitors by getting the ball over the line before it was converted by Dukisa.

Simbas continued to push for a winner, but their ultra-attacking mode left them vulnerable, and Welwitschias sent the ball wide to land a last-minute corner post try before their conversion sliced the uprights.
