Menengai Oilers have welcomed back two Kenya internationals from long injury spells in time for the start of the new Kenya Cup campaign
Menengai Oilers are set to receive a major boost following the return to full-pitch training by utility back Timothy Okwemba and speedster Dennis Abukuse ahead of the Kenya Cup campaign.
The duo have been out with long-term injuries but they are set to lift Gibson Weru’s side when the Kenya Cup begins this month.

RUGBY Elgon Cup: No margin for error for Kenya Simbas as Uganda seek to complete double over them to end 11-year title drought
Kenya Simbas can ill afford another poor performance in Kisumu on Saturday as Uganda are looking to silence them for the second time in a week and win a first Elgon Cup since 2012
Abukuse suffered an injury in August when turning out for Oilers against Nondies during the Christie Sevens in Nairobi following a head collision with team-mate Chrispine Shitundo.
His absence was greatly missed by the Nakuru-based side as he had been on a scoring spree, having notched 13 tries at that point.
The injury also cost him a place in the Kenya Sevens squad for the Africa 7s in Zimbabwe in September when Kenya triumphed over South Africa in the cup final to seal their place at next year’s games in Paris, France.
Abukuse had become a key member of the Shujaa squad since making his debut in November 2022 during the Hong Kong Sevens and has 10 tries from nine tournaments for the national team.

RUGBY Shujaa captain explains why Kenya 15s have traditionally struggled to match Sevens' standards
Vincent Onyala has detailed why South Africa have dominated African rugby in both categories, while Kenya have only seemed to do well in the Sevens version
Oilers posted a video of the two back on the grass in training with their team-mates with the caption: “Guess who are back to full pitch training ahead of the #KenyaCup Kick Off later this month.”
Oilers will be seeking an improvement on their third-place finish in last season’s Kenya Cup regular season campaign when they finished with 37 points, 15 behind winners Kabras Sugar.
The two players will be key to their charge up the table given their quality and experience as seen in the National Sevens Circuit when their absence saw them fail to defend their overall title to finish fourth.
