Kenya Harlequins head coach Paul Murunga has revealed that low energy levels and injury woes were their major undoing in their 22-8 defeat to champions Kabras Sugar RFC.
A few minutes into the match, Meshack Tunechi of Quins was injured and had to be replaced while starting scrum half also got injured and had to be replaced.
Murunga observed that with the injuries happening a few minutes into the game, the boys got distracted and could not fully focus.
“At some point, my boys also looked like they didn’t have enough energy to play. All in all, I am grateful for such an opportunity,” he added.
Quins started the season on a low, losing three consecutive matches to KCB (38-0), Menengai Oilers (24-10), and Kabras (27-12). They, however, changed the narrative in their fourth match and won all their remaining regular season matches.
Murunga lauded the boys for their hard work that saw them get to the semifinal and said they will go back to the drawing board and train hard as they eye next season.
“We have been putting in a lot of effort which has gotten us here. We can always get better considering most of my players are young. Next season we shall come back bigger and better,” he concluded.
