KRU Chairman Sasha Mutai has disclosed that there will be no prize money for Kabras Sugar who won their third successive Kenya Cup title after a long and grueling season.
Kabras Sugar will not be smiling to the bank this season after the Kenya Rugby Union chairman Sasha Mutai admitted that there is no prize money for the winners of the 2023/24 Kenya Cup.
The Sugar Millers beat KCB rugby 29-05 at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday to clinch their third Kenya Cup title in a row but this time around, their only reward will be the pride of being league champions.

Kabras Sugar coach explains why his side have been dominant after completing Kenya Cup hat-trick
Kabras Sugar coach Carlos Katywa has revealed why his team has been hard to break after joining the Kenya Cup three-peat club by completing the season unbeaten.
Mutai has recently been under tight scrutiny and he opened up to Citizen Digital, explaining that there are no sponsors to channel their financial support to the union, therefore leading to empty coffers.
Due to this, KRU will not be in a position to award the winners in the Kenya Cup, Championship, and other respective events. There have also been a series of wrangles and court disputes and Mutai believes that such issues have slowed down the process of getting sponsors.

“The truth is there is no prize money because we have no partners, and the partners will only come in if you have your act together which is what we are currently doing," Mutai told Citizen Digital.

RUGBY Former Kenya Lionesses star blasts KRU over 'ill treatment' of women's national team
Former Kenya Lionesses captain Sinaida Aura has slammed Kenya Rugby Union for not taking the women’s national team seriously following an outcry over delayed salaries.
“So, once we get in the partners, of course, we are very open and transparent, we have sent out proposals we were about to get a sponsorship late last year but because of the internal problems that we have had at KRU, it did not materialise.
“Once we have sorted out things, and that is what the sponsors have said clearly, they are excited and willing to come back to rugby. Once that is done of course the money will trickle down to all the clubs."
When it comes to the administration, Mutai explained that they have ensured all the referees have been paid since they got into office in March 2023.
