Shujaa have dominated at both the Olympic Qualifying tourney and the Safari Sevens tournament under the tutelage of Kevin ‘Bling’ Wambua.

Kenya Sevens have dominated both the Africa Sevens and the Safari Sevens tournaments under the tutelage of Kevin ‘Bling’ Wambua.

Shujaa co-captain Vincent Onyala has praised the work environment Wambua and his coaching staff have created that has allowed the side to produce impressive results under his tutelage.

Wambua has already delivered two titles for Shujaa since coming on board in July, the Africa Sevens tournament, which won them a ticket to the Olympics, and the Safari Sevens title on home soil.

Onyala, who is one of the most experienced players in the current setup despite being just 26, is in awe of the atmosphere Wambua and assistants Louis Kisia and Andrew Amonde have created in the youthful camp that has helped foster incredible results.

“Most definitely, having that work environment, we need that friendliness, and our tech bench provides that avenue where we can connect with them on a personal level and be able to sort out our off-pitch issues that may affect our infield issues,” Onyala said in an interview with Pulse Sports.

“At the end of the day, we get the results after fixing those issues.”

Meanwhile, the media-friendly player has revealed that managing to lift the title in front of their own supporters was something that will live long in the memory, especially for the players that debuted.

“The Swahili say that those who play at home are rewarded, and having the home advantage, you see the results.

"The boys deserved the energy behind them representing their country to their maximum ability and the results take care of themselves at the end of the day.

Spurred on by a huge crowd that included Sports CS Ababu Namwamba and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Shujaa were crowned champions in devastating fashion after demolishing Samurai 19-0 in the final.
