Kenya Sevens co-captain Vincent Onyala has revealed the challenges of being captain of a new side consisting of young “Gen Z” players.
Kenya, under the tutelage of new head coach Kevin Wambua, managed to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics by winning the Rugby Africa Sevens tournament in September, and are still in the process of rebuilding as they prepare for 2024, where they will be aiming to get back into the World Seven Series.

Wekesa admitted that it had been difficult to strike a balance between rugby and mechanical engineering studies, but given he has now completed them ahead of a year set to be monumental for his international career, it will help a great deal.
“Having Gen Z in the team, we now need to tweak the culture a little bit to see what suits them to be part of the team.”
“We are at a place where we are trying to build a new culture as the bigger chunk of the senior players that were there together with the (previous) culture they had built for them to be able to win more games.
